Growling Howling Questioning

Apparently winter is upon us. I wonder if fall is on sabbatical, or if it is just calling in sick? Is it down with a case of the H1N1? Can seasons get the flu? Why did people ever listen to Randy Newman?

As the gloom and mizzle threatened our emotional welfare and overall comfort this weekend, Morgan and I braved the storm and found relief.

In Bethesda, Ray Lamontagne proved that not every Morgan High School graduate ends up tending shop in rural Utah convenience stores. Despite a playlist built for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's mellifluous accompaniment, Ray stomped and howled his way through the night. Highlights included "You Raise Me Up," "Ice, Ice, Baby," & "Truly Madly Deeply." Just kidding. He sang a loud "Let it Be Me" & a stirring "Henry Nearly Killed Me (It's a Shame)" sans the symphony.
Later, searching for more howls (yet lacking sufficient funds to follow Ray to the Friday night Baltimore concert), we settled for an evening with Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are," and left more than satisfied. If you hate computer generation and love building forts, this movie is for you. Despite a screening full of hipster 30 somethings, and at least one person wearing a replica wolf hat, my exceedingly high expectations were met. Go see it...unless you are actually named Max, and prefer movies featuring extraordinary leagues of vampire helsings.

Why doesn't Spike Jonze make every movie?

While the weekend left us both content, we are still left wondering when the rain will stop, how someone could not like Ray Lamontagne's sandpaper growl, and why did this post take nearly 3 hours to write?

And so it goes.
